Biography of Md. Mustafa Kamal, Chief of PBI

Mr. Md. Mustafa Kamal, the Chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), has been promoted to the position of Additional Inspector General of Police (Grade–2). He received this promotion on May 19, 2025. Inspector General, Bangladesh Police, Mr. Baharul Alam, BPM, formally decorated him with the rank badge at the Police Headquarters.

Mr. Md. Mustafa Kamal assumed the role of Additional IGP (Current Charge) as the Chief of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on October 24, 2024. He joined the Bangladesh Police in 1995 as a member of the 15th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police Cadre. After completing his basic training at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah and field attachment in Brahmanbaria district, he started his career in July 1997 as an Assistant Police Commissioner in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Over the years, he worked in various field-level positions in the Bangladesh Police and subsequently, he gained experience working at those different field level positions. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he served as Assistant Police Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Additional Superintendent of Police - Dinajpur District, Superintendent of Police - Habiganj and Chandpur Districts, Deputy Commissioner of Police - Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Commanding Officer (CO) - 3, 5 and 9 APBN, Special Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Additional IG (Current Charge) - Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Mr. Md. Mustafa Kamal was born on October 10, 1970, in a modest Muslim family in Mymensingh. He obtained his master's degree from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka.

So far, he has served with distinction as a contingent commander in six United Nations peacekeeping missions—East Timor (UNTAET, UNMISET), Kosovo (UNMIK), the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC, MONUSCO), and Darfur—Sudan (UNAMID). In recognition of his exemplary and commendable service, he has been awarded the IGP's Exemplary Good Services Badge five times.

In his personal life, he is married and has two daughters and a son.
